The Musical Alamo (not an actual musical. That would be terrible)

Moving right along.

Ok so who hates it when You are driving down the road and you hear a barely rythmic pulsing eminating from some junky ass car and see some scrawny kid smoking a cig and trying to look cool? Or when you hear the same pulsing and look over to see a good ol' boyin a pickup truck with rebel flag on the back with some chew in his mouth? Or when you are listening to Tom Petty or Jeff Buckley and some Little miss-daddyboughtmycarandpaysformetogotoapartyschoolwhereiwearnorthfaceandsleeparound twat tells you, "oh i love Tom petty. .. i saw him that once where he played free bird and ripped his shirt off." or "Oh I love jeff buckley, that song about david and the chord . . . hale a lou yeah! It just makes me cry everytime but i think nickelback has more talent. . ."

I can judge someone for the music they like, sort of, but not the way it makes them feel. But if they really connected to bands such as Lil' Wayne, 50 cent, Nickleback, Brittney spears, The Jonas Brothers, miley Cirus, etc. etc. then our musical culture is in very grave danger.

Jazz is nearly gone from all the country today, with only pockets of resistance left in the old citys such as New Orleans and Chicago. The Blues is more or less dead with only BB King, Clapton, and Bob Dylan (the only person still innovating the art) holding on. Country, true country, is dead. What Remains of it is in the few performers such as Bonnie Rait, Brandi Carlile, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Tom Petty and the HBers, and a few 60's-70's cross over acts, which aren't even true country. Country today is what rock is today. Over produced shit. In Tom Pettys words. . . "Country today is nothing more than a bad rock band with a fiddle." These three genres with a sprinkle of classical (which is starting to enjoy an unexpected comeback) created music today. Like a sand castle or a really exspensive condo on beachfront in florida, the music heirarchy is having its foundation washed out from under it. Once they fall what will happen? Will the music survive? No. Popular culture has coursed out the future of true music like it has so many other things today. All paths lead to a musical, Alamo. The last few remaints of true music will be stomped out by the music industry and their puppets. But like The Alamo, the massacre is a necescity(sp?). William Barret Travis knew that if his command of a little over a hundred let bexar fall without a fight, the mexicans would storm the texas countryside and kill hundreds of innocents before texas could form an army. Every minute they stood would save lives and every man they killed would weaken Santa Anna's army. For Music their Alamo is starting. Inside its walls are the big boys. The Davy Crockett of music is Tom Petty, Bruce Springstein and Bob Dylan. They will stop making music. on the walls are the remaing popular bands of the 60's -90's. Counting Crows, The dead, DMB, Bob seger, The Chili peppers, Kravitz, and many more. Unlike the alamo some will survive. It is key only a few do though. Too many will weaken the tea so to say. So after the fall, all that will remain will be the Industry which will head for the San Jacinto . . . which was another massacre kiddies, except it was the other way around. In some swampy (probably not texan) marsh, the two armys will meet. The sleeping victors of the alamo consider the meager resistance no more than an irksome fly. The Resistance is made up of a few survivors and of all the music genres, Indie Rock. Indie Rock is the most pure music left. Each small, unsigned band has hundreds of influences and are armed with an odd sense of the old rock n roll spirit. and at least one smash hit filled with hooks that will make anyone sing, dance, hop around like you think you can, and cry. maybe even stand up to authority (but lets not get to excited yet ). And one foggy morning the sleeping industry will be slaughtered by the blood thirsty, relentless driven spirit of the Indie's, led by such bands as Vampire weekend, Augustana, 1997, the submarines, band of Horses, Brandi Carlile, The racentours, Stars, Sufjan Stevens, Adam Kowalzyck, Via Audio, Adam Taylor, Andrew Bird, and always led by the ghost of many such as Jeff Buckley but always the one clear general, The Beatles. They might even find Brit in her polka dotted lingerie crying. (thats how they found santa anna). The industry is already picking up big indie bands which will help usher more indie acts into the fight. However it will come about, there is hope. Support local indie bands, go out to see them, buy their awesome merch. They are the future of halfway decent music.
